Promise, Law and Motto

The Brownie Promise is...

Our Promise Ceremony
When the Brownies did their Writer badge, this is how Heather described our Promise ceremony..."This is what we do when a new person comes to Brownies. We get a mat for the grass and the mirror for the water and Robin and Bluebird make an arch. Then your sixer takes you under the arch and she says 'Twist me and turn me and show me the elf, I looked in the water and there saw...' and the person says 'myself'. Then your sixer takes you to Brown Owl and tells her the person's name and says that she wants to be a Brownie. Brown Owl says to the person that you must promise to carry it out everywhere and every day. Then the new person makes her promise and they get their badge from Brown Owl and she shakes her hand. Then she shakes hands with Snowy Owl and Snowy Owl puts our necker on her. Then she shakes hands with Tawny Owl, Robin and Bluebird. We all say 'Well done' three times and the person says 'Thank you' three times and then she is a real Brownie"

The Brownie Law is...
A Brownie Guide thinks of others before herself and does a Good Turn every day.

(Although a Brownie should try to be helpful every day, a Good Turn is where a Brownie tries to help without being asked!)

The Brownie Motto is...
Lend A Hand
or L.A.H. for short!

Uniform
Usually our new Brownies choose not to wear their uniform until the night of their Promise ceremony to make it 'extra special'. The uniform is a 'mix and match' range of outfits which the Brownies can choose from. When a new Brownie makes her Promise she is given a 'pack' neckerchief. The Brownies in our Pack chose to have a saffron gold necker.
